Sr Kathleen's 104 years of dedication

-

Sr Kathleen Moore sadly passed to her Eternal Reward on May 19, having just reached the amazing milestone of 104 years of life. It was a life which she had dedicated to God and to the service of others, throughout her years as a Loreto sister.

News of this follows as her photo was published in TheAvondhu recently as she celebrated her 104th birthday on May 18.

Having taken the name Sr. Alphonsus when she became a Loreto sister, Sr Kathleen reverted to her birth name in later life. She spent many years in the Loreto Convent in Clonmel and in the Loreto Convent in Youghal, but spent her later years in Loreto Fermoy, before moving to Loreto Kilkenny in 2012.

Born in Glenroe, Co. Limerick, Sr. Kathleen remained a proud Limerick woman all her life, rejoicing in recent years following Limerick’s provincial and All-Ireland hurling triumphs.

She had a great sense of humour and a great sense of fun, often enjoying a practical joke.

Having a repertoire of local songs of many verses, on north Cork and Limerick themes, Sr Kathleen enjoyed singing for visitors to Loreto Kilkenny.

She loved gardening and was very talented at growing all kinds of flowers and vegetables in the convent gardens and in later years, in the conservatory in Kilkenny.

It could truly be said of her that she radiated the joy of her faith and of her calling in life and brought this joy to those who knew her.

Sr. Kathleen’s funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Canice’s Church in Kilkenny and she was laid to rest in Loreto Kilkenny Convent Cemetery. She will be remembered with great fondness by family and friends and by her Loreto community.
