Birthday fundraiser in Tallow to support cancer support services

-

There are few of us who have not been affected in some way by a diagnosis of cancer, be it a family member a work colleague, a friend or neighbour. This devastating news can have a profound impact not only on the individual themselves, but also a knock-on effect on their wider family and friends, and those who care for them, who may feel powerless in these circumstances.

Arc House, cancer support group, based in Cork stemmed from a group of people identifying a gap in the cancer care services, coming together to bridge that gap. From its inception in 2001 to present day, they have provided a haven for those who seek their services. Arc House offers emotional and practical support to cancer patients and their families, ensuring that no matter what stage of the cancer journey they are at, that they are not alone.

Solas (the Irish term for light) is a Waterford based cancer support service. Like Arc House, Solas provides support information, phone counselling and remote wellness sessions to cancer patients and their families in the south east region. Both services, along with others like them, are a lifeline to the people who avail of them. These services depend almost entirely on voluntary donations and fundraising to continue offering their support services free of charge to patients and their loved ones.

COFFEE MORNING & DANCING

Considering this, Sean Tobin from Tallow has decided to mark a special birthday by hosting a fundraising event on Saturday, June 17th in Tallow Community Centre. A coffee morning will be held from 10am to 2pm, this will be a wonderful opportunity to connect with friends and neighbours over a cuppa and a cake, while supporting this very worthy cause. Afternoon tea dance will also take place from 2pm to 4pm.

For those who enjoy social dancing, they can dance the afternoon away to the wonderful music of local man Mike Sheehan. Social dancing has many benefits, not alone for physical health but also mental health, making new friends and gaining new skills. Everyone is most welcome.

The objective of the fundraiser is to highlight the vital work which cancer support services such as Arc House and Solas provide, while raising much needed funds and spending time with family, friends and neighbours.

Please come along and support this wonderful event. No matter how large or small, donations can transform lives and safeguard the future of cancer patients and their loved ones.
