Action last Friday night

-

Our U16 squad were in action at home last Friday night against Glanmire in our final league game. It was a beautiful evening for football and there was a good crowd gathered in anticipation of the game.

Glanmire opened the scoring and started strongly, but an opportunistic goal from Shane kept us in touch. However, Glanmire quickly found their groove, rattling in a few goals, and with their ability to kick points they were pretty much out of reach by half time. It was a sobering half time talk as the victory was almost certainly out of reach and the focus was on an improved second half performance.

To be fair to the boys, the second half was much better and they put in a decent effort against what was a clearly superior Glanmire team on the night, eventually losing on a score line of 5-22 to 1-12. Top performers were Adam, Eolann and Jack on an evening where overall we underperformed, but we will have better days ahead.

Team and scorers: L Guichard; C McHugh, S O’Leary, A Casey; C Sheehan, B Ryan, R Kelleher; M O’Riordan, D Barry (0-1); C Buckley, J Hennebry (0-1), A O’Reilly; J Counihan (0-7), S O’Callaghan (1-0), E Hartnett (0-3); D O’Leary, J Kelleher, Z Curtin.

U12

It was a glorious evening at Fouhy Park for the U12 Gaelic football match between Glenville and Youghal. The sun was shining bright and the pitch was in pristine condition, ready for some actionpacked football.

From the very start, it was clear that Glenville meant business. They started off strongly with some amazing goalkeeping from Luke Ryan, who kept Youghal at bay with some fantastic saves. Ben Lewis, the captain, led the team with a ferocity that was unmatched on the field.

Joe Connolly Ely O’Callaghan and Robbie O'Leary held the fort at the back, displaying some impressive defensive skills and making it difficult for Youghal to get any opportunities near the goal. The work rate of Fionn and Ciaran with savage work rate were also impressive, displaying some excellent team-work.

Ags Fenton provided exceptional linking play, making it easier for the Glenville forwards to get the ball in the danger zone. And speaking of forwards, Andrew Welch and James O'Mahony provided some great scores.

All in all, it was a fantastic match, with both teams displaying some excellent skills. But for today, Glenville were the champions of the day.
