Disappointing end to the hurling league

-

Our hurlers had a disappointing end to the group games of the Division 1 Hurling League last Friday night against Shanballymore.

Seamus Roche started the scoring for Ballyhooly but they were followed by three consecutive wides which set the tone for the evening. Ballyhooly were however up a point after ten minutes thanks to Dylan Collins and Diarmuid Linehan even though scores in general were scarce. The lull in scoring was then overturned when Shanballymore got their first goal of the game. Seamus Roche responded immediately with a point but the wides just kept on coming and it was only as the first half ended that James Roche, Dylan Collins and Barry Johnson got points to keep the sides level at the break. Ballyhooly 0-7 Shanballymore 1-4.

After the restart things just would not go right for Ballyhooly and they gave away frees which Shanballymore punished them for, putting them ahead 1-8 to 0-7 points after the first quarter of an hour. Things were further compounded when Shanballymore got their second goal plus another three points before Kevin Kiely responded with a point for Ballyhooly. Shanballymore picked off two points before Kevin Kiely responded again and with a final point from Barry Johnson the night was ended. Over a dozen wides on a night where everything seemed to go wrong for everyone cost Ballyhooly dearly. Final score Ballyhooly 0-10 Shanballymore 2-14.
