Beer shortage as Castletown' parade proves a hit
Castletownroche was ‘rocking’ on Sunday as crowds made their way into the village for what is believed to be their first-ever St Patrick’s Day parade.
A strong representation of local groups, clubs and organisations turned out, with plenty of entertainment and craic, the event being organised by Castletownroche Events.
Michael Clancy, one of the oldest residents in Castletownroche at 92 years young, was named grand marshal and proudly led the proceedings.
Local drifting champion, James Deane and his brother, Mike Deane closed the parade with a display in the middle of the village, of drifting cars much to the delight of onlookers.
“It was absolutely fantastic. Outstanding! The two pubs in the square were packed on the day. The village was rocking so much so that one pub ran out of beer,” said David Hogan of Castletownroche Events
Senior GAA representatives in Ballycastle Gaels, Farrelly School of Dancers, the local preschool and more marched. A number of floats also passed through, as did around 30 vintage cars and several vintage tractors, many of whom are involved with Duhallow Vintage Club.
FUN AND GAMES
In the community centre, following the parade, refreshments were served to attendees and there was plenty of fun and games to be had for children on the day.
“There was a great atmosphere. People really enjoyed it and there was mighty entertainment. The hall was packed afterwards. We weren’t expecting anything like the crowd that came out,” Mr Hogan said.
Thanks were extended to all those who came to see the parade, those who took part, locals who decorated, volunteered, organised and planned the event or helped out in any way. Well done Castletown'!
