Cork easy winners over Wexford

Wexford 1-15 Cork 3-21 Cork senior hurlers were easy victors over Wexford in the concluding round of the Division 1 HL at Chadwick's Wexford Park on Saturday. Conditions were very heavy all through, as the winners got on top from the start, with the outcome never in doubt.

Alan Connolly had the opening point and he followed with the first of his three goals. By the 15th minute Cork led 1-4 to 0-2. Alan Connolly had his second goal and Cork were 2-8 to 0-5 clear.

The home side had points from Mark Fanning (free) and Seamus Casey (free). Points by Padraig Collins and Patrick Horgan had Cork well ahead at halftime, 2-13 to 0-5. Wexford had 7 wides during the first half.

On the changeover Mark Fanning landed another free. Brian Hayes pointed for Cork. Fanning saved well from Seamus Harnedy and by the end of the 3rd quarter, it was 2-14 to 0-7.

Wexford made a rally, but relied mainly on Seamus Casey for scores. Patrick Horgan and Brian

Hayes made it 2-16 to 0-9 after 49 minutes. Wexford had two Seamus Casey pointed frees, as

Shane Kingston pointed a Cork free.

With Lehane pointing following good play by Christophe­r Joyce, Cork followed with a Luke Meade point, the scores now 2-20 to 0-14. Alan Connolly then goaled from a penalty. Good play by Mikey Dwyer led to a Seamus Casey goal and in the dying moments, Conor Foley and Shane Barrett exchanged points.
