U17 girls win in league

U17 GIRLS DIVISION 2 Fermoy 4 Kanturk 0

There was a great game at Carrig Park on Saturday in the miserable weather, where Fermoy hosted Kanturk.

Fermoy took an early lead after some great play. Libby McGrath was commanding in the midfield, winning the ball. She passed to Sarah Love, who played a lovely ball to Jessica Finn, who tucked it away for the opening goal

Fermoy were awarded a penalty soon after, but Caoimhe Keane put it just over the bar. A few minutes later, Fermoy were awarded a free kick outside the box and Kanturk's keeper made a great save from Sarah Love's strike. Caoimhe's determination soon paid off after as she shrugged off her penalty miss and after turning the Kanturk defence inside out, scored 2 more goals for Fermoy to make it 3-0 at half-time.

Fermoy made 2 changes at half time and it soon paid off as they drove forward with some great onetwos between Sarah and Khanyi Mpofu where Khanyi played the ball into the box and Fermoy captain Aoife-May Fitzgerald scored Fermoy's 4th. Fermoy kept pushing for more. Sarah stepped up again with another free kick from about 25 yards only to have it saved again!

She hit the woodwork twice, and both herself and Aoife-May had a couple more chances, one hit over the bar and another just past the post. Kanturk never gave up, but the Fermoy defence was strong and an outstanding performance from Fermoy keeper Hannah Sjaberg kept a clean sheet. Great result and a home win for Fermoy. Fermoy scorers - Jessica Finn (1), Aoife-May Fitzgerald (1), Caoimhe Keane (2).

U13S FALL SHORT IN LEAGUE Fermoy 1 Blarney Utd 4

A tough encounter for Fermoy U13 girls against promotion chasing Blarney Utd this Saturday saw plenty of brilliant finishing in front of goal.

The away side grabbed two early goals to put us on the back foot, but the girls kept pushing for a goal, showing plenty of heart. After the break, Blarney again scored two crackers from outside the area early on in the half. With 16 girls getting game time, there were loads of positives to bring into our next game and with ten minutes left, we finally got off the mark. A great run from Niamh Collins in midfield allowed space to open up for Sofie Doyle when she received the pass from Niamh, Sofie fired into the roof of the net from just inside the box.

Our keeper Grainne was out injured, so a big thank you to Aoibheann and Lucy, who volunteered to fill in just for the day. Roll on our next training session.
