Well done Marina and Maurice

-

The Cloyne 4K series came to an end on St Patrick’s Day after 5 months of great racing ! It is a bit like the Ballycotton 5 mile series over the months of May to August. I was reminiscing about this series when talking about the East Cork Killeagh 4 mile further down and that was the time when there was no chip timing even with up to 500 runners per race! And we all waited patiently for the results enjoying a cup of tea and a few biscuits. Things have changed a lot now as results are immediate.

Four of our members completed the 5 races of the Cloyne series (or nearly) and they were Marina, Maurice, Mike and John. Marina just sent us a little summary of the day and the overall place after the 5 races.

After the week of rain we were lucky to have dry sunny Sunday for Cloyne 4k series. It was nice and warm but a bit windy. It was the last 5th race and Maurice said he will miss it and we are coming back next year. Maurice ran all 5 races and finished 1st M70. Marina Seymour ran 5 races too and finished Cloyne 4k challenge series as 3rd female. Well done to Mike, Johnny and Brian and we didn't forget about St Patrick's Day either. Anyone who runs 4 races out of 5 gets a lovely t-shirt and the t-shirt is really nice.

Results: Marina Seymour 16.51 PB finished series 3d female, Brian O'Connor 16.52, John Delaney 19.20, Maurice Tobin 21.42 finished series 1st M70, Mike Pratt 22.15

Congratulations to all especially Marina and Maurice for their overall prizes! Mighty running!

In the week before St Patrick’s weekend, it was another very busy Sunday of racing with the Courceys 5 mile, the Banteer 5 mile, the Killeagh 4 mile and the Kildare Wine on the Line 10k all taking place on Sunday, 12th March.

COURCEY’S 5 MILE

Linda Whealey who travelled to Garretstown with her husband Shane for the Courceys AC 5 Mile sent us a little write up of this first race.

A very early start for a Sunday morning. Myself and Shane left Fermoy for Garrylucas Beach for the Courcey 5 mile road race. We were greeted with what I would describe as Arctic winds on arrival, it was freezing. We weren't long warming up when the race got started at 9.30, the first half of the race was fine and hilly, Terry described them to me as more rolling drags, I would describe them as hills, To be fair there was a good recovery after each one. The second half of the race was nicer, flatter and the last mile was along the coast with amazing scenery. Shane placed 7th overall and won 1st M40 with a time of 29.37 and I was hot on his heels at 48.06. A tough but enjoyable race.

Congratulations to both Linda and Shane on a very fine run!

BANTEER 5 MILE

The Banteer 5 mile road race was organised by Mount Hillary Athletic Club . This race is part of The Rebel Diamond League so it attracted many entries with 342 runners and among them 4 of our members ran and ran very well!

The route was flat enough and it started on the Kanturk road, we turned left then in the village and headed outside the village but after 2 miles we had to turn around a cone which is not ideal when racing all out and we then headed back towards the village, passed the railway station and back on the Kanturk road. The finish line was just outside the Community Centre. So it was a pleasant route and the weather was dry! Thanks very much to Mount Hillary for hosting a great race and congratulations to Liam, Kieran, Cora and Clo on a fine run! It was Liam and Cora’s very first 5 mile.

And here are their results: Liam O’Connor 27.34 10th overall 1st M50. Kieran McKeown 27.50 12th overall 3rd M40. Clotilde Fitzgibbon 33.15 5th lady 1st F50. Cora O’Connor 42.27.

The next races of the Rebel Diamond League series are Dromahane Roadrunners 5k on 20th April, Bweeng Trail Blazers A.C. 5k on 12th May, Buttevant RC 4 mile on 17th May.

KILLEAGH 4 MILE

Last Sunday’s races brought us to west Cork then north Cork and then east Cork with The Killeagh GAA 4 mile race. 175 runners took part and among them Tony, Maggie, Angela, Helen, Mike and Rachael. The East Cork races are reminiscent of the Ballycotton 5 mile series and I had a little pause there thinking about them. Well done to our 6 members!

And here are their results: Mike Walsh 24.06. Rachael Walsh 27.53. Helen Scannell 28.53. Angela O’Mahony 36.46. Tony Dunne. 39.10. Maggie Dunne. 52.50.

WINE ON THE LINE 10K

Last weekend’s final journey brought us to Kildare village! Well that was after the ‘ Wine on the Line’ race in Kildare! The title of this race sounds very interesting! Mary Clare enjoyed that race so much last year that she was back again with Etha and Liz for this fun 10k run where everyone received a bottle of wine at the finish line! That’s probably why she was back! Ashley made the trip too and both of them ran very well, so congratulations ladies!

And here are their results: Ashley Geary 50:56. Mary Clare Healy: 56.43.

The St Patrick’s Day parade in Fermoy went really well and thanks to all the seniors and juveniles for attending. It was fun to dress up!

If our readers would like more information about the club you can contact Clotilde Fitzgibbon on 086-3162145.
