County Scór na bPáistí finals this Saturday

-

Virtually right from the outset St Catherines have maintained a loyal Scór tradition - the GAA’s promotion of our culture through the medium of music, song and dance. A number of club stalwarts have given their names to Divisional and County Cups. Most notably Dave and Dan Hoare. There’s the Buckley/Casey Cup collected by East Cork’s strongest overall club in Scór na bPáistí. Again, they are the current holders. Club deemed to have collected most points over the three Scór competitions are awarded the Chris O’Mahony Cup. So, the club are in a good position going forward. Backdrop heading to the county Scór na bPáistí finals. Youngest of the three categories and promoted mostly through the schools.

Stephanie Carr is back in a county final. Trying to retain the sean nós dance title. Also participating in the ballad group category. Members being Isla Ryan, Milena Didek, Lara Byrne, Fira Lane and Caitlin Twomey. Caitlin bowed out at semi-final stage having won the Imokilly final in the solo singing competition. This year’s finals are on in the excellent Eire Óg GAA Pavilion, Ovens on Saturday afternoon coming, March 23rd. Take note a competition ending at county final stage. Unlike the older Scór categories going forward to provincial and All-Ireland stage.

CLUB COMMITTEE MEETING This will be held on tonight Thursday, March 21st at 9pm. INTERCOUNTY LEAGUE ACTION

For a county failing to collect a single point from their opening five matches spread over both codes, the Rebels have attained a level of respectability as both football and hurling leagues progressed. Promotion wasn’t a factor. But following wins over Fermanagh, Kildare and Meath neither now is relegation. Now facing up to intimidating Armagh. That said, division two status is now preserved in the national football league. While the hurlers have now reserved a right to play in next season’s revamped topnotch league. Especially after last Saturday’s surprisingly emphatic success in Chadwick Wexford Park. First sight of green shoots as the season moves on. Timing just right.

After a pleasing win in the football a week previous and St Catherines also started their campaign with an impressive success from this minor hurling league tie played at an eventually sunny Ballynoe early on Sunday morning last.
