Tucking into the 'full Irish' in Burncourt

- JOHN AHERN

With a mission statement to cover large tracts of The Avondhu catchment, the convenient takeaway ' breakfast roll' has been a regular 'go to' culinary option for this on the move scribe.

Forsaking the deli on this occasion, I was treated to the 'full Irish' at last Sunday morning's very successful 'Big Breakfast' in Burncourt Community Centre. Keen that the review be favourable, there's no doubt I received a bit of special treatment from Breeda Fitzgerald and a very hardworking team of kitchen personnel. In terms of quality and quantity, this Burncourt Breakfast ticked every 'lunch' box.

The sausages were delicately fried, the puddings, black and white, delightfully presented - all neatly laid out alongside the rashers (plural). A free range Burncourt fried egg was also on the menu. Putting the 'full' in 'full Irish', I gave a royal nod to the lady with a selection of near perfect button mushrooms. It was a shame to turn down the beans (Batchelors of course), so I didn't. 'Hash Browns', which are a relatively new phenomenon to the Irish palate, also appeared on a silver tray - they just about found space on what was, an above average size plate.

I was politely asked how I wanted my toast done, nothing was too much trouble. Someone who religiously contributes to the Barry's Tea empire and not daring to mention the below par performances of the Tipperary hurlers, I ordered 'strong' tea, with a splash of Golden Vale milk. The sugar cubes, which were all the rage at Araglin Stations for years, were a work of art on their own (just the two please).

SHRUNK?

The cushioned chair I had sat comfortably into pre-breakfast, did seem to have shrunk during the feasting, so, I suppose, the quality of furniture in Burncourt Hall may need to be improved (or was that because I may have eaten too much?). No matter, I was set up for the day.

GREAT SUCCESS

'Feed’back from last Sunday's 'Big Breakfast' in Burncourt was all positive, with a sophisticated booking system strictly adhered to. It was a real family affair, with 'smallies' receiving special attention from very efficient staff. In summary, the 'Big Breakfast' in Burncourt comes highly recommended, but perhaps, not every Sunday. Well done folks.
