Huge response to ‘Big Maggie’ in Anglesboro
A big show, a big cast and plenty of big performances in the John B. Keane classic 'Big Maggie', which ran over 5 nights - 20th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd and 24th March - in Anglesboro Community Hall.
The 2-act play is ably directed by Jim Keane, who is the glue that holds the Anglesboro Drama Group together. Highly rated actor, Margaret Ann McGrath, is superb as Maggie Polpin and no doubt even more substantial roles are in store. The Polpin family are central to the play and patrons were treated to excellent performances from: Eimear O'Doherty (Katie Polpin), Ciara Moriarty (Gert Polpin), Johnny Cleary (Maurice Polpin) and Shane Slattery (Mick Polpin).
Eamonn McGrath plays the part of Teddy Heelin, with Ciara Cunningham as Mary Madden. Mrs Madden is played by Mary T. Lane and Dan McCarthy is Mr Byrne. Mourners include Eileen Harrington, Tom McGrath, Maurice O'Connor and Aidan Maunsell. Well done to newcomers, Billy and Rodney O'Donnell, who do a fine job as altar servers.
The Anglesboro Drama Group production team consists of Aidan Maunsell, Maurice O'Connor, Seamus Gordon, Mary Gordon, Patrick English, Emer O'Connor and Maria Childs.
EYE CATCHING SET
The set in Anglesboro Hall came in for a lot of favourable comment. There was wonderful attention to detail and it would have held its own at competition level. It required a huge amount of work, so well done to Dan McCarthy, Tom McGrath, Maurice O'Connor, Aidan Maunsell, Kieran Walsh, Kieran Brosnan, John O'Gorman, Joan O'Connor, Patrick English and Margaret Ann McGrath.
There were large attendances over the 5 nights and refreshments were served during the interval. Admission was also reasonable at €12. The booking line system worked well and overall, everyone was pleased with how things went.
