Positive outcome following Kilworth search
The people of Kilworth and further afield came together in force last weekend following a call-out on Saturday evening that a local teenage girl had been reported missing. Thankfully, the search which lasted a total of 18 hours or so, resulted in the teenager being found safe and well on Sunday morning. The good news brought with it a great sense of relief for all concerned.
Emergency services, including gardai, the Coast Guard helicopter Rescue115 and the Civil Defence, co-ordinated a search operation late on Saturday evening using the GAA grounds and local national school, Scoil Mhartín, as a base, with the main focus of the search being in the vicinity of Glenseskin Woods.
The Coast Guard helicopter was witnessed around from around 9pm hovering over the area as volunteers focussed on checking the village, nearby farmlands, outhouses etc. Volunteers also gathered in Scoil Mhartín providing food and refreshments for all involved in the search.
Shortly after midnight, an update from the base of Rescue115 noted that they had stood down their search for the night: ‘RESCUE115 is now safely back at Shannon after tasking to area near Kilworth Co Cork for a missing person search, full search completed & nothing to report so RESCUE115 stood down to RTB Shannon.’
While gardai issued notice that the search with volunteers would resume at 7am on Sunday morning, many locals and members of the emergency services continued the search well into the early hours.
Thankfully, news filtered through early on Sunday morning, shortly before 10am, that the girl had been located, safe in the woods. With that good news, all volunteers were stood down. Many of those involved returned to base and, as they enjoyed some refreshments, that great sense of relief was very evident.
