Volunteer opportunity to assist Kenyan school

- MARIAN ROCHE

Mitchelstown man Robert Hanna is seeking volunteers to work with the Brydges Centre School in Nairobi, Kenya, a school that offers access to education and support services to students regardless of background or circumstances.

The volunteers are invited to bring their specific skillsets to the projects that may be required of them, including projects like building dormitories, playgrounds and other infrastructure.

Mr Hanna last visited the centre in 2019 and says that the opportunity to help and volunteer in Kenya benefits the people of that community, but also benefits the Irish volunteers, giving people ‘a focus, gives them a purpose’.

Mr Hanna says the goal is to build and take part in ‘sustainability projects’ and he's aiming to get six or seven volunteers from Ireland who are willing to travel to Nairobi in August or September this year. The would-be volunteers are supported in running fundraisers in the community, or alternatively, two or three ‘big fundraisers’ would be run to finance the trip.

The Brydges Centre School was established five years ago and states their mission as providing ‘quality education and support services to children, youth and families, particularly focusing on vulnerable children, girls and rural women’.

“We invite you to join us in our journey towards building a brighter future for the communities we serve. Whether through volunteering, partnerships, or donations, your support can make a lasting impact on the lives of children and youth”.

Those seeking further information are asked to contact Robert Hanna on 087 4385138.
