Fianna Fáil Elections launch night in Lemybrien

-

There was a strong turnout of Fianna Fáil members on Friday, April 5 at Crotty’s Inn in Lemybrien as the party held their Waterford launch night for candidates contesting the local and European elections this coming June.

Director of Local Elections, Patricia Lyons, on behalf of Waterford Constituency Fianna Fáil Comhairle Dail Ceantair, said that they were ‘delighted’ to see such a good turnout, adding that candidates appreciated the support of those in attendance.

Special guests on the night included Minister for Older People & Mental Health, Mary Butler TD, Billy Kelleher sitting MEP for Ireland South and Cynthia Ni Mhurchú, the party’s second MEP candidate for Ireland South.

“Attendees were delighted to hear from all three of these guests as they addressed the meeting and spoke about the campaign thus far, which is now in full swing and offered some insight in what we can likely expect to see over the coming months.

“Each of the 9 local election candidates representing the party were also given ample opportunity to speak on the night. Several members remarked to me that it is evident that Fianna Fáil is putting forward excellent candidates on their local election ticket in Waterford. People were really encouraged by the vast array of experience, expertise and passion which was evident from the respective speakers,” Ms Lyons added.

Locally, Michael J Walsh will be contesting the local election for the Lismore area, while further afield, Cllr Tom Cronin will be running for the Dungarvan Electoral Area.

Elsewhere, Cllr John O’Leary and Ray Murphy will be contesting in the Portlaw and Kilmacthomas area, Cllr Eamon Quinlan will be running in the Waterford City West and Tramore area, Cllr Jason Murphy and Vivienne Burns in the Waterford City South area and Cllr Adam Wyse and Cllr Stephanie Keating in the Waterford City East area.

The director of elections outlined that Fianna Fáil currently holds 7 seats on Waterford City and County Council.

“All elections are challenging in their own right but given the calibre of the candidates we’ve seen here tonight, we are optimistic of not only retaining that number but hopefully building on it.

“We’ve had a very encouraging launch night here and it is great to see our candidates as buoyant and enthusiastic in their respective campaigns,” she concluded.
