Preloved clothing sale to help raise funds for Kilworth school

- KATIE GLAVIN

Kilworth NS Parents' Association are hosting their first ever pre-loved clothes sale on April 13 in a bid to raise some much-needed funds for the local national school.

A hardworking committee of six local parents have been planning and working hard in the background for around eight weeks to get the event up and running.

“We were at the school on Monday morning and we already had three full rails of clothes from donations,” said Laura McGrath, chairperson of Kilworth NS Parents' Association.

“We used to do a clothes collection where all the clothes went to a recycling company, but what we noticed the last few times was there was a lot of really good stuff coming in like new shoes and stuff. We thought it would be a good opportunity for people to be able to buy them and put a few euro towards the school funds,” Ms McGrath added.

Offering a more sustainable option for those seeking some new style, the preloved clothes sale is set to be a cash-only event, so those attending are advised to bring their wallets, to cash in on the deals on offer.

A wide selection of preloved and new clothing is set to hit the rails, ranging from trendy pieces to timeless classics, kids occasion wear, unique accessories, etc.

COVERED PLAY AREA

When asked what the reaction has been like locally to the event, Ms McGrath said: “A lot of people think it will be a fun event and there’ll be no waste. Any items donated that don’t sell will be donated and passed on to local charities”.

All proceeds will go towards the further development of Scoil Mhairtín NS and it is expected that the majority of funds will go towards the development of a ‘ light well’ at the school.

“The ‘ light well’ will be a covered area that will allow the kids to play outside in bad weather. It will be a covered area that will allow more space and shelter in the outdoors of the school. Over the next three years, that will be a big project for us to raise funds for the construction of a covered area for the ‘light well’,” Ms McGrath said.

Already, the parents' association have purchased 30 Chrome Books and are planning for further projects to raise funds.

Kilworth NS Parents’ Association also contribute to a variety of activities at the school, putting money towards busses for swimming lessons, school tours, etc where possible in an effort to take pressure off parents.

MARK THE DATE
