FERMOY ACTIVE RETIREMENT - Names being taken for our May day trip

Fermoy Active Retirement’s next gathering is on Wednesday, 17th April at 2.30pm in Fermoy Youth Centre.

Our guest on the day is a kinesiolog­y practition­er. Our last meeting was very well attended, our guest speaker was Angela, representi­ng ALONE, the organisati­on founded by Willie Bermingham, that offers practical and befriendin­g services that enable older people to age at home. Many thanks Angela.

KURLING

The final took place in Kilworth recently. It was a very exciting final with the following team emerging as overall winners with a score of 54.points; Eileen Flynn, Eileen Rea, Mary Quill, Betty Gowen, Theresa Roche, Joan Leamy, Breda O’Keeffe, Bridie Dorgan and Grace McCarthy. The following team were a very close second, scoring 53 points; Catherine O’Gorman, Noreen Ryan, Mary

Thorp, Marie Hackett, Kay O’Driscoll, Maureen Long, Peg Sheedy, Anne O’Leary and Siobhan Hayes. The individual shot winners were as follows; 1st Noreen Ryan, 2nd Mary Carey, 3rd Mary O’Connor. Many congratula­tions to all winners. Many thanks also to Kilworth A.R.A for organizing the event and making it a very enjoyable event. The teams were presented with lovely prizes.

We also had a raffle with wine and Easter eggs galore and of course lots of glorious eats. It was truly a most enjoyable event. The next league will commenced in Fermoy Youth Centre on Tuesday, 9th April at 10.30 am, with the final on the 18th June.

CONGRATULA­TIONS

Mabel, one of our long- standing and esteemed members, had a significan­t birthday recently. We honoured the occasion with a beautiful cake and wished her every good wish for the future. Happy birthday Mabel.

OTHER NEWS

Chair Yoga continues every Friday in Fermoy Youth Centre at 2pm. Some places are available at a reduced rate of 6 euro per class. It’s a very beneficial and gentle form of exercise, give it a try! Our choir, with Mairead Scannell on keyboard, are entertaini­ng the service users in Conna and Cluain Dara. New members always most welcome, give it a go.

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY

May 15th (Wednesday) day trip to Tramore and Kilmeaden, Vintage Railway, Japanese Gardens, guided tour, walk about in Tramore town and a stroll on the beach. Dinner in The Majestic Hotel, €60 excl coffee breaks. Names being taken at the moment. May 28/29th National AGM in White’s Hotel in Wexford. Many more trips and events always in the pipeline.
