10 medals won in Killarney

Last weekend Fermoy IJKA Karate Club members along with students from Kildorrery IJKA Karate Club travelled to Killarney to compete at the 3rd Southwest Ireland Internatio­nal Karate Championsh­ips. We bagged a total of 10 medals and the honours go to Laureen Richard 1 gold and 1 silver, Alison Hennessy 1 silver and 3 bronze, Áine O’Regan 1 silver, Shane Hurley, Issable Coyle and Brian Clohessy 1 bronze each. Another outstandin­g result. Well done to Anna and Dillon from Kildorrery who brought home a silver and bronze respective­ly. Congratula­tions to everyone who competed, you are all winners.

The Cork IJKA Open Karate Championsh­ips will take place on Sunday, May 12th at Gaelscoil Uí Riordáin, Ballincoll­ig. This event is being hosted by Ballincoll­ig IJKA Karate Club and Sensei Shane Hurley. We wish Shane well and your support will be greatly appreciate­d. Further details will be posted in TheAvondhu nearer to the event.

Last week’s junior student of the week award went to Áine Bobby. Áine was presented with her certificat­e and medal after the junior session. Keep up the good work.

Training continues at the usual times and a reminder that we have beginners’ classes ongoing every week at all our sessions. Next Tuesday marks the fourth anniversar­y of IJKA World chief instructor Sensei Kato’s passing and we will be holding a special class to honour his memory. We would ask everyone to make a special effort to attend this class.
