10 medals won in Killarney
Last weekend Fermoy IJKA Karate Club members along with students from Kildorrery IJKA Karate Club travelled to Killarney to compete at the 3rd Southwest Ireland International Karate Championships. We bagged a total of 10 medals and the honours go to Laureen Richard 1 gold and 1 silver, Alison Hennessy 1 silver and 3 bronze, Áine O’Regan 1 silver, Shane Hurley, Issable Coyle and Brian Clohessy 1 bronze each. Another outstanding result. Well done to Anna and Dillon from Kildorrery who brought home a silver and bronze respectively. Congratulations to everyone who competed, you are all winners.
The Cork IJKA Open Karate Championships will take place on Sunday, May 12th at Gaelscoil Uí Riordáin, Ballincollig. This event is being hosted by Ballincollig IJKA Karate Club and Sensei Shane Hurley. We wish Shane well and your support will be greatly appreciated. Further details will be posted in TheAvondhu nearer to the event.
Last week’s junior student of the week award went to Áine Bobby. Áine was presented with her certificate and medal after the junior session. Keep up the good work.

Next Tuesday marks the fourth anniversary of IJKA World chief instructor Sensei Kato’s passing and we will be holding a special class to honour his memory. We would ask everyone to make a special effort to attend this class.
