Fermoy U15A 3 Churchvilla 2

Fermoy U15A had an exciting end to a cracking Cup tie in Carrig Park versus Churchvilla on Sunday. Missing some regulars, a reshuffled squad set about their task and got just rewards when Noah finished with a cracker. The assist was from Killian. Churchvilla settled more into the game and equalised before half time. In the second half, Churchvilla started the brighter and scored from a penalty. Fermoy pushed hard for an equaliser, which came via Paddy. A lovely finish into the bottom corner. With seconds left on the clock and extra-time on the way, Killian won the ball outright, turned and dribbled at the Churchvilla defence. He unleashed a furious low shot into the Churchvilla net. Fermoy advance to the next round of the U15 local Cup. Thanks to the referee and Churchvilla for a sporting game. Substitutes used: Malik, Tommy and Michael.

JUNIORS WITH A COMMANDING WIN

Fermoy welcomed Carrigtwohill United to a wet and windy Carrig Park last Friday evening for the Blues’ last home league game of the season. With relegation to division 3 still a very real possibility, three points were badly needed. An excellent start to the game saw Fermoy go one up within the first five minutes thanks to a Dylan Crotty goal. While Fermoy dominated possession, it wasn't until the half hour mark that a second goal game, with Dylan Crotty setting up Danny Heneghan. Fermoy went into half-time with a two nil lead.

In very wet weather, the floodgates finally opened for Fermoy in front of the goal. Four second-half goals from Dylan O'Sullivan and one each from Scott Doyle and Colm Lane saw Fermoy secure an impressive 8-0 win and claim three important points. With two games remaining (both away), to Lakewood and Avondale, this strong performance should give the Fermoy team confidence to pick up points in both games.

Team: Sean O'Connor, Mark McCarthy, Conor McNulty, Cian Kearney, Colm Lane, Ryan O'Mahony, Aaron Dennigan, Nicky Kelleher, Danny Heneghan, Dylan Crotty, Dylan O'Sullivan. Subs: Scott Doyle for Dylan Crotty, Dion McCormack for Aaron Dennigan, Gary Burke for Danny Heneghan, Jason Moorehouse for Ryan O'Mahony, Darragh Gill for Mark McCarthy, Adam O'Keefe, John O'Brien.

U11S LOSE ON PENALTIES

Fermoy U11s took on Douglas Hall in the first round of the Eddie Healy Cup. In the wind and rain, Fermoy started strongly, pressing the Douglas defence with attacks from captain Stephen Gowen, Ben Relihan and Oscar Burke. The Douglas goalie proved difficult to overcome.

When the play turned, it was our defenders who kept them out. Again, strong displays from Jack Gowen, Tom Kenny and Killian Donegan. Goalie Jack Morrison had a quiet time of it and dealt with any shots calmly and securely. The second half saw an early opportunity for Douglas to take a 1 nil lead.

The switch over of Fermoy's players paid off. A playout from the back started with Jack McGrath, playing up to Fionn Higgins, who passed cleanly to Robbie Wallace. Robbie found Luca O'Donoghue. He side stepped the defender to power a shot over the line. The remainder of the second half played out without any threat as backs Cormac Lysaght, Jack Gowen and Jack McGrath kept their cool.

Fermoy pressed Douglas back into their half and had multiple opportunities to finish the game in normal time but for the efforts of the Douglas keeper.

Extra-time began with some fine attacks by our attackers, but none found the back of the net. Twenty minutes played with both sides taking any of their chances. There was no change in the score at the end of extra time. Penalties, then sudden death finished off our campaign. It was a huge battle in diabolical rain, but the victory was not to be had. Congratulations to all our squad. Onwards and upwards for this team.
