Strong finish by Kildorrery sees off Milford

Avondhu sides Kildorrery and Milford played out an entertaini­ng McCarthy Insurances Division 4 HL game at Kildorrery on Sunday. Heavy rain prior to the game made for slippery conditions.

Entering this match, both sides had lost their two games to date. Exchanges were close for long periods with the teams level on 7 occasions, however, four late points for the ‘Hill’ in succession proved vital.

Luke Keating opened the scoring, before Henry O’Gorman levelled from a sideline cut. Kildorrery moved 0-4 to 0-1 ahead and lost key player Peter O’Brien through injury. Milford made a massive comeback, wind assisted. Eoin Dillon was outstandin­g at centre back with Tadhg Flynn impressive at wing back. Points from Brian Murphy and Tadhg Flynn levelled 0-6 apiece after 24 minutes. Henry O’Gorman with a ‘65 gave Milford an interval lead of 0-7 to 0-6

It was again very close on the restart. Luke Keating was in great form for the home side. They were level 0-9, 0-11, 0-12 and 0-13 entering the final quarter. Luke Keating edged Kildorrery ahead. Cathal Harrington had some great points, before goalkeeper Ian Butler pointed a free from over 100 metres in injury time!
