An all-road weekend for the Mooreabbey Milers AC crew
All roads led to Templemore last Sunday morning for the latest instalment of the county road championships season, the county senior hosted by Templemore AC as Storm Kathleen was becoming a distant memory.
A 10.30am start for the ladies 5k and an 11am start for the 10k senior men saw only three club men take to the start line in this poorly supported county championship event. Our three elder statesmen of Willie O'Donoghue, Damien Holian and Tom Blackburn battled well outside their categories, with most of the field of athletes half their ages, to finish in 16th, 18th and 22nd place.
COBH 10 MILE
Ballymore Cobh Athletic Club hosted the 'Sonia O’Sullivan Cobh 10' Road Race last Sunday morning in the lovely town of Cobh. The race which was formerly known as 'The Great Island Road Race' is a fundraiser for Breakthrough Cancer Research and the further development of Ballymore Cobh AC’s Juvenile facilities. Out wearing the club colours in the race that literally has it all with flats, hills, live music, Olympians, beautiful scenery, t-shirts, medals and mugs, were Marie O'Shea who finished in 1.19.54, Mary O'Connell finishing in 1.26.50, Gerda Coyne finishing in 1.37.14, Padraigin Riggs finishing in 1.58.33 and taking a category win and Dariusz Gazdowicz in 1.10.48.
