DHU An evening of classical music in Christ Church
Fermoy's Protestant church (Christ Church) was the setting for last Saturday night's concert, hosted by Fermoy Classical Music Society. This well supported show exposed patrons to the timeless music of Bach, Mozart, Chopin, Liszt and Debussy.
Fermoy Classical Music Society spokesperson, Orison Carlile, said the public were increasingly receptive to a style that transends language and culture.
"We've had a number of concerts and while not all have attracted large crowds, we're delighted to be able to offer music lovers an opportunity to experience and enjoy the classical genre".
He went on to say, last weekend's show was a wonderful platform for young classically trained musicians to showcase their considerable talents. Individuals he was referring to included: Lucia Miao, Ava Rose Moher, Ava Hallinan, Evan Logue, Brigid Mahon, Mia Tobin, Mairead O'Donoghue, Sean Finn and Roisin Fleming, along with brothers, Elliott and Aaron Passaquay, from Conna.
BRILLIANTLY ENTERTAINED
The attendance last Saturday night surpassed expectations with 'last minute walk-ins' boosting the numbers. Another mainstay of Fermoy Classical Music Society is renowned composer and music teacher, Aidan Duggan. Aidan teamed up with Amhlaoibh and Gormfhlaith Ó Siochain Ó Beoláin for a number of well received numbers.
Performances from the aforementioned, Orison Carlile, the renowned Pauline O'Mahony and Micheál Lane, were other highlights from a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
HELPING OUT
Others who took time out to assist with the planning and organisation of the show included: Flann Groarke, Marianne Harris, Heather Smith, Tadhg Ó Siochain, Sandy Blackley and veterinary surgeon, Ian Fleming. Recently installed Church of Ireland rector, Clodagh Yambasu, was also in attendance.
The €10 expended represented excellent value for money and attendees went home with a greater appreciation for music that continues to stand the test of time.
