DHU Country stars light up Cappoquin
A 300 strong crowd followed 'the country stars' to Cappoquin Community Centre on Wednesday, 10th April. Big acts and big crowds are becoming synonymous with this spacious west Waterford venue and few could complain about a line up that was a who's who of country and Irish music: Robert Mizzell, Patrick Feeney, Declan Nerney, Mick Flavin, John Hogan and John McNicholl.
John McNicholl travelled the furthest, having set out from Derry earlier in the day. Showing no signs of fatigue, John said Cappoquin's reputation for being a country music hot spot was known throughout Ireland.
"Any time I've come here, I've got a tremendous welcome. They consistently get great crowds in Cappoquin and from the very first song, you quickly realise that these people know their country music," the Northerner said.
AVONDHU CATCHMENT WELL REPRESENTED
TheAvondhu catchment continues to supply a generous amount of fans for shows in Cappoquin. During the interval, we were able to ' work the crowd', attracting the odd wave from friendly faces in the crowd. We met Oliver Manley, who comes from a famous musical family in Glenville, along with his good friend, Tom Walsh; Ballyduff Upper was represented by the duo of Tommy Lawless and Mike Kenneally, amongst others, with keen music fan, Patrick Buckley, making the short journey from Lismore - Patrick maintained his excellent track record of success in the raffle, by taking home an attractive hamper.
Paddy and Catherine Feeney, from Tallow, who were enjoying a rare night out, also gladly posed for the camera. Retired couple, Hannah and Pat Twomey, from Araglin, who are strong supporters of shows and plays, were also in attendance amongst the large crowd.
HAPPY PUNTERS - DEREK RYAN UP NEXT
'A Night With The Country Stars' got a five star rating from attendees and no doubt many of them will be back in the not too distant future.
Country fans are already looking forward to Derek Ryan's visit to Cappoquin - which promises to be another entertaining, lively and sing-along success for the town on the banks of the Blackwater.
