Sherlock gives full backing to Mitchelstown native Diarmuid Hanley to contest Fermoy LEA
Mitchel st own native, Diarmuid Hanley, was selected to contest the Fermoy Local Electoral Area for the Labour Party this week. The selection convention was held in The Firgrove Hotel, attended by family, friends and supporters.
Mr Hanley said, “I, along with my family, and fiancée Marie, have been deeply involved in the local area through various sporting, charitable and community-based organisations in the Mitchelstown and Fermoy locale.”
“If elected, I promise to be new voice for the Fermoy LEA, representing the people of the community and delivering for them daily. I promise that with fresh thinking and new ideas, I will become the much-needed change in representation for the people of Mitchelstown, Fermoy and the surrounding areas of this electoral area.”
“I promise to carry on the good work of Labour Party TD, Sean Sherlock and his father before him, Joe, in highlighting the breadand-butter issues of the locality and bringing those to resolution on Cork County Council.”
‘NEW GENERATION’
Deputy Seán Sherlock, who chaired the selection convention, gave his full support to Mr Hanley’s campaign.
“The Sherlock family are very happy to endorse Diarmuid. To us, Diarmuid encapsulates a new generation of public representative, who understands the challenges of life in Ireland for younger people. I am very hopeful that people will give Diarmuid a chance in these local elections,” Deputy Sherlock said.
“He is a person of great character and comes from good stock. I am confident that he will work hard and do his best for people. I’m impressed by his talent, intelligence and empathy for people.”
“Having grown up in Mitchelstown and being involved in community based organisations like Fermoy Musical Society, amongst other endeavours, has given him a keen sense on what the people of Mitchelstown, Fermoy, Rathcormac, Castlelyons, Kildorrery and the surrounding areas, want to see in their representatives at Cork County Council. It’s important to see new people enter politics, especially at this time,” he concluded.
