Impressive Cork too good for Tipperary

Cork U20 footballer­s were never really troubled by Tipperary in their EirGrid Munster Football Championsh­ip Phase 2 Round 1 game at the splendid Fethard Town Park on Wednesday evening.

Hugh O'Connor opened the scoring from a free after two minutes. Edmund Myers had an effort saved by Robbie McGrath. Hugh O'Connor added from play for Cork. A foul on Orrin Jones saw the same player open Tipp's account from a free. Over the hour Orrin Jones was Tipperary's best player. A foul on impressive Darragh Sheedy led to another Cork pointed free 0-3 to 0-1. In the 12th minute Olan Corcoran landed a fine Cork point. Tipperary had a point back when Eoin Doocey pointed from long range. Good play by Darragh O'Brien led to a Rory O'Shaughness­y point. Orrin Jones pointed a free for the Premier side but Darragh Sheedy was quick to reply from the 'mark' as Cork led 0-6 to 0-3 after 18 minutes. Shane O'Connell made some good clearances as Tipp made a recovery. Bryan Hayes pointed a Cork free with Hayes also pointing in the 28th minute as the Rebels led 0-8 to 0-3 at half-time.

Cork had an early point on the resumption. Orrin Jones replied from a free. O'Shaughness­y with a point restored the 6 point lead. Tipperary made a number of substituti­ons. Shane Ryan pointed in the 42nd minute 0-10 to 0-5. Hugh O'Connor with another free made it 0-11 to 0-6. Further pressure saw Cork add points by Rory O'Shaughness­y and Hugh O'Connor 0-13 to 0-6. Tipperary had a 54th minute point. Aaron O'Sullivan completed the scoring for Cork in the dying moments.
