Medal presentations

-

It was a great afternoon on March 24th at Ballyhooly Community Centre for the Ballycastle Gaels medal presentations. Medals were awarded to the U12, U14 and U18 boys teams, as well as the U12 girls teams.

Firstly, the U12 girls team was called to the stage by their coach, Olan Crowley and presented medals for winning last year’s U12 girls football league. The U12 girls played in the North Cork division 3 league last year and, while the majority of the team were U11, they played really well across their league matches and after winning their divisional grade section went onto play a few games in the county. With a panel of 16 girls, the girls all got lots of game time and learned to play a variety of positions. The coaching team of Ann, Emma, Killian, Olan, Oam, Satrah and Tony were very happy with how the girls progressed over the season. The girls enjoyed many a great day out, especially at the Munster Blitz in Fethard and the Munster Blitz in Passage. Thanks to everyone who helped out and contributed to the U12 girls last season.

A similar task was undertaken by Wesley Walshe, who presented medals to the U14 boys, who won both the U14 division 1 championship in hurling and The U14 division 2 football league. Wesley Walshe coached the team to great success last year with other coaches, Kevin Twomey, Denis Dingivan and Linda Murphy.

Colm Finnegan presented medals to the U12 boys for winning the U12 division 3 Plate hurling league. Colm was also supported by Ger Hanrahan, Ger Ryan, Harry O’Farrell, Brian Hogan and Billy O’Regan in coaching responsibilities. Finally, Rachael Ahern presented medals to the U18 boys for winning the U18 North Cork Hurling League. Rachael Ahern, Joe Dowling and Tom Crowley coached the U18 boys to their great success.

In conjunction with their respective coaches, local school teacher and Waterford hurler, Stephen Bennett, presented medals to all players, congratulating each one on their achievements and the great victories for Ballycastle Gaels. He congratulated the players and coaches on their victories and encouraged them to strive for more success over the coming seasons. Ballycastle Gaels would like to warmly thank Stephen Bennett for his time in attending the event and his encouraging words to all teams.

Chairman, Liam Dineen, also echoed that sentiment, also congratulating the teams and coaches on their respective victories and encouraging them to strive for more success this year. Liam Dineen also encouraged the participation and fun element of the games whilst striving for success.

We would like to offer a big thank you to all who attended, to those who organised the event,

Catherine Nash and Edel Leahy as well as those who organised refreshments. We would also like to thank players, coaches and parents for the big turnout on the day as well as at matches throughout the year which make all of this worthwhile.
