Willie O'Donoghue, Damien Holian and Gerard Hanley are county O50 masters champions

-

The village of Clerihan and Clonmel AC hosted the third last race of the county road championship series last Sunday afternoon. A dry breezy day brought 100 athletes to the start line with an inclusion of eight men and four women in the purple and white singlet of Mooreabbey Milers AC. A victorious day was to be had for the club as they came home with a whole slew of medals.

Willie O'Donoghue who ran home in 10th position overall led the O50 team of himself, Damien Holian and Gerard Hanley to the O50 championships title and the retention of the championship cup. Willie and Gerard also claimed the individual gold medals in their categories while Damien took bronze in his. Willie O'Donoghue also led home the O35 team followed by Damien Holian, Gerard Hanley and Robert Cunningham finishing just outside the medals in 4th place. Backing up the winning team were Tom Blackburn, Liam Lewis and Dariusz Gazdowicz, who missed out on the individual O50 category bronze by one second. Our only O65+ representative was Gerard Kervick who put in an exceptional performance in his 3k race to finish 3rd overall and claim the bronze O65 medal.

Our ladies' team of Mary Louise Ryan, Deirdre Bailey, Patricia Ryan and Mary O'Connell also put in excellent performances to finish 6th team in a tightly contested O35 team event, with Deirdre Bailey claiming the individual silver in her category.
