Cork County Council celebrates 125 years

Cork County Council’s first ever minute book dating back to 1899 was proudly displayed in the council chambers in County Hall on Monday as part of the council’s 125th anniversar­y celebratio­ns.

Guests gathered in the foyer of Cork County Hall where the Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Frank O’Flynn and chief executive of Cork County Council, Valerie O’Sullivan, were joined by special guests, Minister for Finance Michael McGrath TD and Simon Coveney TD, both of whom spoke about the vast changes that have taken place over those 125 years, but also how the role of Cork County Council has remained the same, ensuring the very best service to the people of Cork county.

Proceeding­s also included the official launch of a special publicatio­n ‘Cork County Council: 125 years of progress 1899 – 2024' which covers some key events and activity throughout this period - see inside.
