Fire services attend collision near Ballyhooly

- KATIE GLAVIN

Fermoy Fire Service were called to a road traffic collision in the Ballyhooly area on Tuesday morning, where they were assisted by members of the Mitchelstown brigade.

On the backroad to Fermoy, two vehicles collided with emergency services called to the scene. There were no serious injuries reported, however occupants of both cars were taken to Cork University Hospital by ambulance as a precaution.

Over the weekend, callouts were issued to both local fire brigades for two house fires in Glanworth. The first was an incident involving the hotpress in a home, occurring at approximately 1.30am. While there was a certain amount of damage, no occupants were injured. The brigade were alerted by the PhoneWatch system

In close proximity, some four doors down and just a day or two later, the brigades attended another callout to Glanworth, however, it transpired to be a faulty smoke alarm. Then on Monday morning at about 1.30am, a fire alarm in Mitchelstown led to the local fire brigade attending a premises.

Members of the public are reminded that smoke alarms do have a sell-by date and that such instances can occur, so like most electronics, these should be changed or replaced every few years. Furthermore, smoke alarms save lives and the battery should never be removed for any reason.
