The Avondhu

Win some, lose some

-

Interclub competitions are well underway at Fermoy Golf Club. The long awaited spring weather has finally arrived, the recent dry spell in conjunction with the work carried out on the course has enabled us to return to 18 holes from last weekend. At the same time some areas of the rough still remain high which extends the duration of winter rules until further notice.

The women’s Munster trophy team played against Cork Golf Club last Sunday, 21st April with 3 teams in Fermoy and 2 teams playing in Cork Golf Club. Unfortunately we lost to a very strong Cork team. Thank you to the players who ultimately played a strong match, and thanks also to the caddies, supporters and vice-captain, Mary Aherne, who looked after everyone on the day.

The ladies Intermediate Foursomes teams will get underway against Kinsale next Sunday, April 28th at 2pm, home and away. The Revive Active team also play against Kinsale the following Saturday, home and away. As always your support of the team is greatly appreciated.

MEN’S CLUB INTERCLUB ACTION

Our first showing for the JB Carr Championship ends in victory for the home side! A convincing win in the end, with the first three matches won and the final two called off. Fermoy took an early lead and held on to it through the back nine. Mallow gave a good fight and played some lovely golf, as everyone expects from them, but couldn't catch up in the end. Commiserations to Mallow Golf Club and we wish them the very

best in the future.

As for Fermoy, we now face the winners of Charleville v Mitchelstown away, with a date yet to be announced. Well done to everyone involved and a special thanks to John Mulvihill, team manager, his assistant Thomas Higgins, all the staff in Fermoy Golf Club for looking after everyone for the day and to all the grounds staff. All reports say the course was in great condition for the match, a credit to all.

Elsewhere, our Jimmy Bruen Shield team had less luck, taking a difficult loss to Raffeen Creek away on 20th April. The tough, tight course and strong opponents proved too much for us, suffering a 3-1 loss on the day. Congratulations to Raffeen Creek, who progress to the next round of the shield, we wish them the very best of luck.
