Big birthday for Johnny O'Mahony
There was a massive turnout at last Saturday night's 'surprise' birthday party for popular Watergrasshill restaurateur, businessman and racehorse owner, John 'Johnny' O'Mahony.
It's a case of 70 years on the go and no sign of slowing down for a man who is known throughout the region. Johnny's family pulled out all the stops for their man, with singers, dancers and a variety of entertainers all booked to acknowledge this significant milestone. An elaborate cake, fireworks, photographs and good wishes were the order of the day in Kades Kounty, Glenville last weekend.
There were tentative proposals to include horses, however, this plan was modified to include athletic young men with horses heads - a plan B, that worked equally well.
FEEDING PEOPLE FOR DECADES
John O'Mahony has built his career on feeding men, women and children over the decades - something he continues to do courtesy of Johnny's Restaurant in Watergrasshill, where he also operates an adjoining supermarket. Quality at the right price has been Johnny's motto over the years and in an era of increased costs across the catering sector, Johnny and his hardworking staff, continue to deliver, ensuring customers get the best service possible.
Many of those staff attended the party, all keen to wish the man of the moment every good wish for the future. During the early part of his career, he operated a mobile chipper, which produced many a bag of chips and tasty burgers for late night revellers.
LOVER OF MUSIC AND DANCE
Johnny and his wife, Eileen, are dedicated dancers with a fondness for country and Irish music. One of the legends of the country and Irish scene, Paddy O'Brien, performed at the party, as did popular one man band, Pat Daly - a disco kept things going until late.
A PASSIONATE MAN
Someone who is never afraid to get stuck in and who believes firmly in the value of hard work, Johnny is grateful to his family, relatives, neighbours and staff for putting on such a great show. Staff at Kades Kounty, a venue he knows well, also did a first class job for this first class restaurateur.
