Works for Glanworth's village plan to get underway this summer

- KATIE GLAVIN

Traffic calming measures are to be installed in Glanworth over the summer months as works are due to get underway under the Village Enhancement Plan.

A raised table is to be installed along with new seating and additional tree planting, while a bus shelter is also being sought for the area.

County Mayor and local councillor, Frank O’Flynn, welcomed the news saying that he was ‘ delighted’ to see the village enhancement plan secured and progress being made on the new village plan for Glanworth.

“I look forward to these works being carried out. We had a meeting in the hall to know what people wanted and we had an on-site visit with the engineer and with planning and design.

“It’s going to enhance Glanworth. We already have a very strong TidyTowns group and Community Council and this will encourage people to visit the area, see our heritage and stay in Glanworth,” Mayor O’Flynn said.

On the Main Street, along the R512 across from the church, a raised table is to be installed flush with the footpath edge, in the vicinity of the post office and shop.

Seating is also proposed in this area, nearby where Chapel Hill intersects with the R512 Main Street.

According to Mayor O’Flynn, bicycle stands are also to be installed in the village, while footpath works are expected on the Fermoy road and on Lower Main Street.

On the eastern side of the village, immediately north of the new raised table, a bus shelter is being sought also.

Glanworth is the first of three local villages to see plans developed under the Village Enhancement Scheme, with works in Killavullen and Glenville expected to follow.
