Ballyduff Drama Group heading to Athlone
Full houses with waiting lists attached is proof (if it was needed) that Ballyduff Drama Group’s presentation of Jez Butterworth’s ‘The Ferryman’ has really tickled the public’s curiosity with many self-admitted ‘non-drama’ followers simply having to see the production during the home runs of the play in St Michael’s Hall.
A mammoth undertaking by director Ger Canning along with her set crew, cast and backroom team, those who have had the pleasure of seeing the play will agree that that this riveting production fully deserves it’s place in the
RTE All-Ireland finals in Athlone which kicks off on this Thursday night in the Dean Crowe Theatre, Athlone.
Nine plays in all, Bridge Drama opens the nine-night run with ‘ The Wake’ by Tom Murphy, followed on Friday by Wexford Drama’s ‘ How I Learned To Drive’ by Paula Vogel. Then it is Ballyduff's turn on Saturday night with ‘The Ferryman’ by Jez Butterworth and that will be followed on Sunday by Prosperous DG’s ‘A View From The Bridge’ by Arthur Miller.
The plays to follow during the week include ‘Radium Girls’ by D W Gregory (Clontarf Players), ‘The Crucible by
Arthur Miller (Dalkey Players), ‘In The Shadow of the Glen (re-imagined by Sean Treanor after J M Synge - Newpoint Players), ‘ Out Of Order’ by Ray Coonet (Ballycogley Players) and finally ‘Margaret’ by Sean Byrne (Ballyshannon DS).
The man to decide who the winning group should be is Mr Tom Byrne and we wish him well with this difficult task. He will announce where the various awards go on Saturday night (11th) at a gala function in the Radisson Hotel.
We take this opportunity to wish Ballyduff Drama Group every good wish in their quest for another All-Ireland title.
