Labour calling for clear road accident data
The Government is being called on to introduce clear road accident data, without delay, as Labour councillors from the Dungarvan and Lismore Electoral Areas state that ‘urgent action’ is needed on road safety.
hazards. He is now calling on the Government to ‘step up’ and fulfil its duty to protect citizens.
“Despite the Taoind seach’s commitment to prioritising road safety, action has been lacking. It’s time to ensure accurate collision data is available to all and to allocate funding for repairing our crumbling roads nationwide,” Cllr Pratt said.
He went on to note that while clear road data may not solve all
According to Tallow based Cllr John Pratt, motorists, cyclists and pedestrians ‘risk their lives’ every day due to inadequate infrastructure and incomplete information about road road safety issues, it is a ‘crucial step towards decision-making'.
“Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians deserve to know where incidents occur on our roads. This knowledge empowers individuals to make safer choices and encourages responsible road usage.
“Coupled with accessible data, we must prioritise funding for local councils to repair our crumbling roads nationwide. Potholes pose significant dangers to all road users. By investing in better infrastructure, we aim to reduce fatalities and make our roads safer for everyone in county Waterford,” Cllr Pratt added.
Cllr Thomas Phelan, of the Dungarvan Electoral Area, claimed that better road infrastructure would hopefully have an impact on the ‘enormous increase’ in road fatalities that the country has experienced in the past two years.
“There’s hardly family or community untouched by the tragedy of road fatalities. We owe it to them and to future generations to do everything in our power to protect lives on our roads," Cllr Pratt said.
“The Government must act now to introduce clear road accident data and provide the necessary resources to repair our roads. Together, we can make the Dungarvan/Lismore Electoral Area a safer place for all.”
