Sunday first for Fermoy Car Boot Sale

- KATIE GLAVIN

Rise and shine early this Sunday morning as the gates open at 7.30am for the Fermoy Car Boot Sale, which makes a return to the Showgrounds. The event, which was first held last year, is being held in aid of Fermoy Rugby Club.

Peter O’Donoghue, one of the organisers, explained that the car boot sale will be held every four weeks until the rugby season returns in September.

“Last year we had a fantastic year considering it was our first year. We’d be hoping to build on that this year. Last year we had it on the Saturday, so this is our first one on the Sunday. There was a lot of appetite to have it on Sunday’s, so we’re going to host this one on the Sunday and see how it goes from there. If it’s a success, we’ll keep continuing it on the Sundays throughout the summer,” he said.

Like most car boot sales, organisers are expecting to see a variety of items on offer and they are not limiting their expectations at what treasures may be found!

“You can expect to see anything for sale in the car boot sale, from shovels and tools to toys and clothes to furniture and more. Everything and anything is for sale at the car boot sale. It’s a very social day out too. You meet lots of people, lots of different characters and everyone seems to be in good humour and enjoying the car boot sale,” Mr O’Donoghue added.

With €2 entry for buyers and varying entrance fees for venders, all proceeds made at the gate will go towards supporting the ever-growing Fermoy Rugby Club.

“We have multiple different adult teams, underage teams, juvenile teams. It costs a lot of money to run any club, including a rugby club. All the funds raised from the car boot sale, all the proceeds will be going towards Fermoy Rugby Club and the maintenance of those teams, which bring a lot of joy to the children of the area.

“It’s a good boost for the town in the summer. Not alone is it beneficial to Fermoy Rugby Club, but it's beneficial to the whole town. We look forward to seeing everyone there on Sunday,” Mr O’Donoghue added.
