Mitchel st own Tourism invites young and old to a novel traditiona­l games walking tour on Saturday next, May 4th (bank holiday). Meet at the Clongibbon Hotel at 11am.

Many enthusiast­s will help you try your hand at camán skills and rare traditiona­l games skills including weight for distance - Mitchelsto­wn hosts national senior champ and record holder in Kotryna Pacerinska­ite. Rustic horse shoe throwing. Hazel wood skittles throwing (7 national finals played in ‘Town). It is planned to enter a skittles teams U12/ 14 for Munster Community Games finals.

Also, road bowling stalwarts in Glanworth and Kilbehenny have graced many roads near and far. Children’s Puiríni stones popular at schools in by gone days. Participat­ion in these inclusive trad pastimes are accommodat­ed in our Age Friendly Town.

Mitchelsto­wn has a proud dairy co-op dating to 1919 when churn rolling/racing came into vogue. Meet up with a 19th century spailpín at famed Market Square, John Mandeville, Land League, Famine signs, Sky slope, Buddist Temple, medieval and live human burials, Mulberry Silk Farm at behest of Sir Athur Young, St. Fanahan’s Pagan Well.
