Night to remember for Fermoy Bridge Club
Bridge continues to thrive locally, due to the sterling efforts of Fermoy Bridge Club. Inaugurated in 1934, members were determined that this significant milestone be marked and on Friday night last in The Firgrove Hotel, Fermoy Bridge Club celebrated its 90th anniversary with a President's Dinner and gala prizegiving.
Club president, Maggie Egerton, with assistance from fellow officers, oversaw proceedings. Prior to the meal, many of the club's past presidents were honoured, before some of the club's long serving members cut an elaborate 90th anniversary cake.
Following an excellent meal, a variety of prizes, including the prestigious Heskin Trophy, T.P. Magnier
Perpetual Trophy, Military Cup and Pairs Cup, were presented.
VERY ENJOYABLE OCCASION
While all major events are keenly contested, there's a strong social aspect to bridge and the card game has been responsible for forging many friendships over the years. Historically, a 'Gentleman's Club', women are now very much to the fore.
The club is fortunate to have such dedicated members and thanks to their energy and enthusiasm, Fermoy Bridge Club continues to experience significant growth.
A GAME FOR ALL AGES
Bridge is an inclusive pursuit and new members are always welcome. Lessons are offered periodically and the club has been represented nationally and internationally over the decades.
It's fortunate to own its own premises at Mill Island, Fermoy and despite facing several challenges such as Covid, the club has never been stronger. This strength and comraderie was clear for all to see last Friday night, when the club celebrated 9 decades of bridge on the banks of the Blackwater.
Fermoy Bridge Club wishes to thank everyone who attended last Friday, as well as acknowledging the efforts of hotel staff in making this a night to remember.
