Newtown' too good for Fermoy

Newtownsha­ndrum 3-14 Fermoy 2-9

Newtownsha­ndrum maintained their unbeaten run in the Cavanagh's of Fermoy Division 2 HL at Fermoy recently. The winners had two early goals from Turlough O'Neill and they led all through.

Points from Kieran Murphy (free), Padraig Noonan, Turlough O'Neill and Eric Moloney saw Newtown’ ahead 2- 4 to 0-0. Paudie Shanahan had two pointed frees for Fermoy. In the 17th minute good play by Brian McGrath led to a Mark Flynn goal. Flynn followed with a point.

Padraig Noonan was in great form for the winners at midfield. He placed Shane O'Leary for the winners’ 3rd goal - 3-8 to 0-4. Kieran Murphy pointed a long range free. Fermoy had a late point from Craig Murphy and at half-time, Newtown’ led 3-9 to 1-5.

Fermoy tried very hard on the resumption, wind assisted. Padraig Noonan and Paudie Shanahan exchanged points. Mark Flynn had a goal from a free. Kieran Murphy and Ross O'Sullivan also exchanged points. By the three-quarter stage, Newtown’ led 3-12 to 2-8. In the closing moments Ross O'Sullivan and Kieran Murphy exchanged points, as Newtown’ emerged 8 point winners.
