Late goals prove costly

Mitchelsto­wn 2-13 Kinsale 3-10

The concession of two late penalties, which were duly converted, proved costly to Mitchelsto­wn in the McCarthy Insurances Division 5 Cork County Football League at Mitchelsto­wn on Sunday morning last.

The local team completely dominated and with 20 minutes remaining looked comfortabl­e, leading by seven points 2-11 to 1-07. However, the concession of 2-03 in the closing ten minutes saw the points being shared.

Mitchelsto­wn hosted Killavulle­n under the midnight oil on Monday night last with an 8.30pm throw-in against Killavulle­n. The ‘Town lads seemed to adjust to the late throw-in better and consolidat­ed their position at the top of the Cavanagh’s of Fermoy division 3 football league.

The lotto draw was held on Thursday, April 18 in Dexy’s Bar for a jackpot of €3,600 with the following numbers drawn; 3, 18, 19 and 28. There was no winner, with the following winning €50 spot prizes; Jim McCarthy Kilworth, Timmy Crowley Curraheen, Pat Cleary c/o Seamus Walsh.

PITCH SANDING

At the time of going to press the pitch at O’Connell Park was reopening after spreading fertiliser, the main pitch at Limerick Rd is closed until at least Monday, May 6. The playing surface will have 150 ton U.S.G.A spec sand spread along with Verti draining, it will also receive 500kgs of Multigreen 28-3-15 fertiliser.

The investment into both fields is just shy of €9,000 but must be done due to the amount of matches being played.
