Glanfest is here!

-

The time has come for one of the most anticipated weekends of the year. It is time for Glanfest 2024. What do we have in store? Well how about this?

This year's music line-up is sure to get toes tapping and hearts racing with performances by some of Ireland's most beloved acts. Five live bands in total! Headlining the event are acclaimed artistes such as Mundy, The Fógues, Riff Shop, and Deuces Wild, promising an unforgettable musical experience for attendees of all ages. Joining them on stage is the uproariously funny comedian Cornelius Patrick O'Sullivan and the foot-stomping tunes of The 3 Buachaillí, ensuring there's something for everyone at Glanfest.

But Glanfest isn't just about the music. As part of the festivities, Glanfest will host a panel discussion "Grassroots," featuring esteemed guests such as Liam Sheedy, former Tipperary hurling manager and Sunday Game pundit, Rena Buckley, Cork ladies football and camogie legend, and Johnny Pilkington, All-Ireland winner with Offaly and who is a very lively entertainer. The discussion will delve into the importance of grassroots sports in local communities and the impact it has on fostering a sense of belonging and camaraderie. No subject is off limits as last year’s guests Dónal Óg Cusack, John Mullane and Briege Corkery can attest to! GAA Comedy Sketch to wrap up too! This went down a treat last year with plenty laughs and this year will be no different!

During the daytime events, attendees can immerse themselves in a plethora of activities that capture the essence of community life in Cork. The Owenie McAuliffe Football 7s is on Saturday with 12 teams confirmed between men’s and ladies’ teams. Fast free flowing football! Compromise rules on Sunday with Mitchelstown RFC for the ‘James Meaney Memorial Tournament’. This man was a legend in both clubs. First aid kit at the ready for this one with players out of retirement for this. Mothers and others football is back. Great laughs last year at this with some of the moms enjoying the after game refreshments too. They deserve it!

The farmers market will showcase the finest local produce, crafts and delicacies, while the family fun day will offer a wide range of entertainment for all ages, including interactive workshops, games, and attractions. Pet lovers can also look forward to the highly anticipated dog show, where furry friends will compete for top honours in various categories. Bouncy castles and a throwback to family fun days that everyone knows and remembers. Last year’s day time events were fantastic for all the family with plenty of smiling faces. This year plans to be no different and there are extras added too!

Glanfest is a celebration of everything that makes our community special - from our vibrant social scene to our rich sporting heritage and close-knit families. We're thrilled to welcome visitors from near and far to join us for a day of festivities and fun. We can’t wait to see you all here. Let’s make it a weekend to remember.

INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALLERS

Our footballers suffered defeat last Sunday morning when we played host to Uibh Laoire on a scoreline of 2-8 to 0-7. I wasn’t at the game so I don’t have a report but we were leading with fifteen minutes to go so that shows a big improvement. Hopefully the full sixty minute performance isn’t too far away. Keep the hard work up guys, ye will get there.
