Seniors lose to Mungret in league

-

In a rescheduled fixture, Galtee Gaels senior team played Mungret at home last Thursday in Kilbehenny in the South Senior League.

Gaels got the first score of the game with a point from play inside the first 90 seconds from Zach McCarthy. Mungret then pointed from a free and followed up with a point from play. Gaels were unlucky to have a goal chance saved but quickly pointed from the boot of Zach McCarthy when a long ball from Alan Condon found him in the corner. Midway through the half, both teams exchanged points with the Gaels score coming from a long ball from Padraig McGrath. Zach got our final score of the half and neither team would score for the final 10 minutes of the half. Gaels lost Kaelem Breedy to injury and he was replaced by Declan Moriarty in the backline.

Despite not scoring, Gaels defended very well against a sprightly Mungret side. Half-time score Gaels 0-4 Mungret 0-3.

The second half began like the first with both teams exchanging points from play, the Gaels score coming from another long ball from Padraig McGrath. Mungret upped their game and were pushing for scores for the half. Both teams were guilty of aimless wides and Adam O’Keeffe in goals was forced to bring off vital saves on 2 occasions. Fresh legs were introduced with Eamonn Kelly in for Conor Moriarty, Alan Coughlan for the injured Eoin Gallahue and Pádraig Gallahue for Paddy English. It was Mungret however that managed 3 more scores in the half and took the win. Final score - Gaels 0-5 Mungret 0-7.
