Students' artwork to display in St George's

-

The enchanting surroundings of Saint George’s Arts and Heritage Centre, Mitchelstown, will be the venue on Friday night for the 2024 Presentation Secondary School Art Exhibition. The exhibition will be opened at 7pm and aims to highlight the work of some of the school's talented young artists.

Entry is free and refreshments will also be served on the night. This exhibition celebrates the incredible work created by the students through the ‘Creative Engagement’ initiative, an initiative funded by the NAPD, which promotes the arts in secondary schools. Professional artist Aine Andrews facilitated the workshop and gave students the opportunity to learn oil painting techniques and the fundamentals of portraiture. The 5th Year Art students firstly agreed on the theme of ‘unity’ and ‘nostalgia’ for their project. The eventual piece was going to be a self-portrait, so a lot of thought went into the pose and message that each student wanted to convey. Each piece is unique and was created over a number of months.

“Each student's response to the challenge was phenomenal,” said their Arts teacher, Ms Linda Evans. “They really have to be seen to truly appreciate the work that went into them”.

The exhibition is on show for one evening in Saint George’s and will be moved to Mitchelstown Library for the rest of the month. Art from other year groups will also be on display on the night.

Please feel free to pop in and enjoy the artistic ambience, it’s sure to be a great evening. It's the first exhibition of young people's art being exhibited at Saint George's and although the first, it won't by any means be the last.
