Team F league winners

-

The much awaited Corbett Court Sponsored Spring League final took place on Sunday morning, when the four top teams took to the tee boxes. We had a nice dry morning, ideal for the occasion. In the qualifiers there was never much between the teams, the same was true in the final. As they say in the other small ball game not a puck of a ball between them, how true!

Team F; John Hogan, Noreen Ryan, Liam Roche, Con Martin, John Walshe were the winners with a score of 146. 2nd place Team B; Seán Howard, Michael Gowen, James Martin, Paul Magnier, Seán Hegarty with a score of 147. 3rd place Team H; Aidan Ahern, John McCarthy, Tom Shanahan, Catherine Morrissey, Nell Coughlan with a score of 164.

At the presentation of prizes chairman, Seán Howard, welcomed all and thanked Declan Corbett for his continuous generous sponsorship to the club. He thanked all for making the league a success, those who checked the cards every Sunday during the league and on the final Sunday. Seán thanked all who helped with the catering and the beautiful refreshments which were greatly appreciated by all, and all who had the course in pristine condition for the event. In reply Declan Corbett said he was delighted to be sponsoring the Club League saying it was his 22nd year coming on board and never getting a wet day for the final Sunday, quite a record! The club ask members to support The Corbett Court Restaurant whenever possible.

There was a fourball competition for members not taking part in the league. The winners were 1st nett Pat McNamara and Nan Downey on a score of 41 (on the back 9), 1st gross Christy Murphy and Mary Allen 53.

Tuesday afternoon’s fourball competition winners were 1st nett Michael Gowen and Abina McDonald 41 1/2. 1st gross Pat Houlihan and Pat McNamara 52. On bank holiday Monday we had a threeball competition, the winners were 1st nett Seán Howard, Sheila Hegarty, Seamus Fox 85 2/3. 1st. gross Christy Murphy, Mary Quane, Seamus O’Connell 110.

Tuesday and Thursday’s competitions are changed to the later time of 6.30pm sharp. Our competition this weekend is organised by the Roche family, Mitchelstown, in honour of the late Marie who was a very popular playing member of our club. No better way to honour Marie than to dedicate a weekend competition in her memory. The competition is a 3 day singles competition, commencing at 4pm on Friday evening, play as many cards as you wish on Saturday, final card on Sunday morning at 10.15am. First card €5, subsequent cards €2.
