U18 HURLING V KILSHANNIG

Kilshannig then got their scoring rhythm to see St Dominics trailing 1-05 to 2-10 at the break. U12 HURLING V CLYDA ROVERS

Last Saturday morning, the St Dominics U12s were on the road to Mourneabbey for their hurling league match against Clyda Rovers. The start of the match was delayed by a few minutes as the referee was running late. Nobody minded as it gave the teams a bit more time to warm up and complete their preparation. With Rhys Pierce as captain for the day, St Dominics got off the mark early in the

game with some great linking through midfield and into the forwards who converted their point.

However Clyda quickly responded to level up and push ahead with a goal. From there, Clyda took the initiative in the first half with some quality play and worked the ball through quick hands and accurate shooting. In goals for St Dominic’s was Seán McAuliffe who made some excellent saves and clearances and kept his team in touch. Jack McGrath was tenacious in competing for the ball and won a large number of frees for his team.

St Dominics came out fighting in the second half, determined to perform well. A couple of early goals from Clyda made it a touch battle for the lads but they soldiered on. Eoghan Desmond had a great game and chased every sliotar that he could. The team stuck with the task throughout the game and Danny O’Keeffe scored a lovely goal in the last

quarter. This lifted his teammates who rallied towards the end of the game, showing great character.

Ultimately, it was not to be in Mourneabbey, Clyda Rovers were deserving winners who inflicted a large score on St Dominics. The referee, John Kenneally, took time to give feedback and generous encouragement to both teams at the end of the match which the boys appreciated.

Luckily for the St Dominics U12s, they had Glanfest to look forward to over the weekend and this was a great success and very enjoyable. Well done to all the organisers and volunteers who delivered another great local festival.

Team: Seán McAuliffe, Oisín Noonan, Rory Fuller, Finbarr Conran, Tommy Brennan, Daniel Sheedy, Matt Coughlan, Joey Gibson, John Dunne, Ciaran Roche, Eoghan Desmond, Danny O’Keeffe, Jack McGrath, Conan Selma and Rhys Pierce.
