Fermoy take vital points in Division 2 HL

Fermoy 1-20 Ballyhea 1-15

Fermoy had five points to spare over Ballyhea in a vital Cavanagh's of Fermoy Avondhu Div 2 HL game at Ballyhea on Sunday. It was close for long periods. Fermoy pulled away

but Ballyhea made a massive recovery as they came within 2 points by the 50th minute.

Jack Lynch opened the scoring for Ballyhea. Fermoy replied with two points by the impressive Brendan Daly. Sean O'Kelly levelled at 0-2 each. Craig Murphy pointed for Fermoy and the same player placed Brian McGrath for a great point. Points from Evan and Dean Copps had them tied 0-5 each. Craig Roche and Paudie Shanahan (free) gave Fermoy a lead of 0-7 to 0-5. Sean O'Kelly kept Ballyhea in touch.

Fermoy finished the half well and they had a goal from Eoin Canty with Craig Roche, Craig Murphy and Brendan Daly adding on late points, that opened up an interval lead of 1-10 to 0-7.

On the resumption, Diarmuid O'Shaughness­y had an early point. Fermoy had two minors by Niall Cloney. Sean O'Kelly replied with a point – now 1-12 to 0-11. Fermoy doing well in midfield held the lead for the rest of the hour. Ballyhea got within a goal.

Brendan Daly had another point under pressure. In the 55th minute, Stephen Walsh goaled for

Ballyhea, but they were unable to get on terms. James Fitzpatric­k and Craig Murphy landed points - 1-17 to 1-14. Craig Murphy and Craig Roche completed the scoring.
