Summer at last?

-

May Day has come at last to herald in the official summer – that time of year with longest days, brightest sunshine and highest spirits. Hopefully, it will lead to improved golf on a course which is noticeably drier, and we note an increased “run on the ball”. Growth is accelerating and the trees are coming into full leaf. The waft of wild garlic is in the air as we walk along the path behind the 4th and 13th tees. Shorts are beginning to appear on the apparel front and players have been seen to walk with a light step – at times like this we truly acknowledge that golf is “a walk enhanced”.

ANNUAL CLUB CLASSIC

We are now at that time of year when we hold our annual Club Classic – this will take place on Thursday 9th and Friday, 10th May and is held in association with the Jimmy Walsh Memorial Cup. This is a big fixture in the year as it is one of our main fundraisers, and a successful outcome benefits all members. This year the proceeds will go towards our course development fund. We invite all members to participate and anticipate and welcome any teams from outside our club. We would like to thank all members, businesses and other organisation who have sponsored teams or tees or have contributed to raffle prizes. A special word of thanks to our main sponsors, McCarthy Insurance Group. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank our regular sponsors and to remind our members to support them.

The format for our Classic is three ball better ball with booked tee times. Food is provided after play and presentation of prizes will be at 9.30pm on Friday evening. (12.2) 32 pts. (6 ladies played).
