Michael and Neil take spoils at golf club

-

AS WITH the rest of the country, it was disappointing on the weather front at Mallow Golf Club last weekend as high winds and heavy rain threatened to disrupt play in the annual Pat Owens Memorial 4Ball event.

However, as one would expect, the players at Ballyellis were not going to let the elements dictate as large numbers took to the fairways for the highly sought after title.

The team of Neil Harrington (11) and Michael Downey (18) took the spoils in the two day event with an impressive tally of 44 points.

The duo were coolness personified as they took first place by one point from the teams in second and third.

The Talented pairing of Aonghus Gannon (6) and Brendan O’Driscoll (9) took second place after carding a tremendous tally of 43 points which was the same score as the third placed team of Mark Gleeson (9) and Eamonn Nagle (12).

The final spot on the podium went to David Forde (6) and Michael McKenna (12) who came in just one point further back with a 42.

Away from the team event there was an open singles competition on Friday last, with the first prize going to Noel O’Connor (Cork Golf Club) (17) after he posted a terrific score of 43 points.

O’Connor took the prize by a very impressive four points from another visitor, Eoin Hourihan of Cahir Park (13) who finished with 39 points. Third place went to local man Seamus Hickey who signed for 38 points.

The final prize went to Aonghus Gannon (6) thanks to his 30 point tally in the Gross competition. This was Gannon’s first of two podium finishes of the weekend which bodes well for the state of his game at present.
