DETAILS OF the 35th annual Charleville Agricultural Show were announced at a press reception at the Charleville Park Hotel on Thursday last, which was attended by the many sponsors of the event.

Those present were welcomed by the show chairman, Mr. Ian Doyle, who said that the show would be held, as was now the tradition, on the last weekend in June on Saturday 18th and Sunday 29th June.

Mr. Doyle said that Charleville Show was the only two-day show in the country and was regarded generally as one of the most prestigious in Ireland, and to win a rosette here was highly valued.

He said that from small beginnings, when the first events staged cost in the region of €20,000 to run the show, it had grown immensely and now costs €180,000 to mount.

“We have had great committees over the past 35 years who have made a huge contribution to this voluntary effort which has seen the committee acquire their own show grounds, which they have developed in recent years to make it more comfortable for patrons to enjoy what the show has to offer,” said Mr Doyle.

“We have also had wonderful sponsors from the beginning with Golden Vale as our major sponsor and this has continued with Kerry Agribusiness, and we thank them and all the other sponsors, as well as the land owners who give us so much support each year,” he said.

He said that the importance of the show cannot be over estimated and Charleville Showshad the finest dairy, beef and hose and sheep sections along with the huge vintage display and the children’s competitions, the arts and crafts, pet’s corner and horticulture sections - which all go to make a wonderful day out for the entire family. “I look forward to welcoming everybody to the show this year and it again promises to be another spectacular event,” he added.

On behalf of the sponsors, Mr. Paul O’Flynn of Kerry Agribusiness said they were delighted to be associated with the show and he congratulated the committee on being selected as the Show of the Year in 2013, which was also good for the sponsors of the event.
