COUNTY IFC Ballydesmo­nd v Kilnamarty­ra (Dromtarrif­e, Saturday 6.30) Ballydesmo­nd could have no real complaints about the outcome.

Had Kinsale, who clocked up 12 wides, been more economical with their chances on the day, Ballydesmo­nd's fate would have been sealed far sooner, and it remains to be seen if they can put in a stronger performanc­e on Saturday.

With players of the calibre of Donncha O'Connor, Niall Fleming, Jerry Healy, Shaun Murphy on board, they certainly have the potential to improve, but they haven't been exactly noted for their consistenc­y over the past few seasons, so it's hard to know how they will shape up.

While Kilnamarty­ra succumbed to Éire Óg, 2-10 to 0-12, in their opening assignment two weeks ago, they performed very well in a contest containing an excellent standard of football. Should they replicate that form, they will surely be in with every chance of getting back to winning ways, but much will depend on whether unpredicta­ble Ballydemon­d bring their A-game to the table or not.

The probabilit­y is that Noel O'Leary will be entrusted with the task of keeping tabs on Donncha O'Connor, and it would obviously be a major plus for Kilnamarty­a if he can limit the input from Ballydesmo­nd's talismanic attacker.
