ENTERTAINMENT ‘Sullane Sessions’ in Briery Gap Theatre
THE BRIERY Gap, Macroom is to host a new series of intimate gigs - the “Sullane Sessions” - highlighting the best in national and international singer songwriters.
The series kicks off on Saturday, May 24 with the enchanting Katie Kim with support from Joan Shelley.
Katie Kim is the pseudonym of Katie Sullivan when she performs and records her ‘Slowcore’, ethereal, ambient folk/pop. De-tuned guitars and sparse piano playing, walls of loops and echoing vocals come to the fore along with grisly tones, haunting and experimental flavours for sounds, all of which is executed with subtle simplicity.
Katie Kim has worked with artists such as Ed Harcourt, David Kitt, Halves and The Waterboys, who she appeared with on “Later...With Jools Holland” in 2011. Her third album is due later this year.
Supporting Katie is Joan Shelley, all the way from Louisville, Kentucky. Joan is a singer and songwriter who records and tours with her band, The June Brides.
Sullane Sessions will continue on June 13th with Oliver Cole and guests The Shaker Hymn, on 25th July it’s Daniel Martin Moore and guests Jackson Dyer & Ghost Town Jenny and 23rd August with John Blek & The Rats, with further dates to be announced.
Following an extensive renovation programme in 2013, including a state of the art lighting and sound system, new theatre seating and refurbished theatre bar, the Briery Gap has focused on delivering a broad and diverse programme of events.
“The Sullane Sessions series will be a fantastic addition to the theatre and will attract yet another new audience to Briery Gap, further demonstrating our commitment to attracting the best in musical talent,” said Ann Dunne, manager of Briery Gap
Tickets for all gigs are €10 and can be purchased in advance from Briery Gap Box Office on 026-41793. For information and updates, check out Facebook.com/sullanesessions
