Cyclist who was crushed by car showing signs of improvement

A DUHALLOW cyclist who suffered severe internal injuries as well as bleeding to his lower limbs when he was crushed by a car prior to race in Kerry, is showing signs of improvement.

Luarent Dumoulin (46) from Lombardstown, who is married to Rockchapel native Mairead O'Keeffe, was getting ready for the John Drumm Memorial Cup race on Sunday, April 28 in Currow when he was badly injured.

The father of four was standing behind his car with his son, Arnaud, along with Eamonn Young, whose son was also taking part.

Mr Dumoulin was getting his son's bike out of the car, and the three were chatting, when a driver pulled out of an entrance and the vehicle ended up crushing Mr Dumoulin, who is a stalwart member of Kanturk Cycling Club.

He was rushed to Tralee General Hospital, but because of the seriousness of his injuries, he was airlifted to Cork.

However, in the last week, he was transferred to the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Limerick, where a very specialised surgeon carried out an operation on his lower leg.

Mr Dumoulin is now showing signs of improvement. However, The Corkman understands that he will undergo a number of other procedures.

Mr Dumoulin, who is French, moved to Duhallow in 1989 and he married Ms O'Keefe and the couple now have four sons.
